The Journal of International Humanitarian Action welcomes submissions to a Special Collection on the topic of Psychosocial Elements of Humanitarian Action.
This Collection will be dedicated to field research discussing the psychological, social, and mental health aspects of humanitarian action. It will explore pre- and post-disaster interventions and rehabilitation efforts targeting the psychosocial well-being of the affected communities as well as humanitarian workers. Tailor-made methods and holistic approaches to the community needs and resources will be discussed along with the applicability of various models. The Collection aims to explore a variety of beneficiaries' characteristics and contexts using preventive measures including DRR (disaster risk reduction) and empowerment.
The editors welcome submissions that test new assessment tools, both quantitative and qualitative, for individuals or communities, and explore new interventions in recent humanitarian crises worldwide.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Standardization of assessment tools
- Measurement of personal and community resilience
- Cross-cultural comparisons of models and measures of resilience and empowerment
- Evidence-based emergency mental health interventions
- Needs assessment and interventions in migrating people, people in transition, and refugees
- Coping mechanisms and decision-making under uncertainty
- Secondary traumatization: definition, intervention, and prevention
- Assessments of aid worker wellbeing
- The effects of pre-mission interventions on humanitarian workers
- The effects of targeting communities' resilience on community outcomes
